Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between death anxiety and chronic disease self-management in asthmatic individuals living in a container city. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 512 patients between March 15 and July 30, 2024. Data collection relied on three separate instruments: a Sociodemographic Information Form developed by the research team, the Death Anxiety Scale, and the Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease 6-Item Scale. All statistical procedures were carried out in SPSS version 25.0. The mean death anxiety score of the patients participating in the study was 52.4±12.3, and the mean self-management score was 6.2±1.9. The correlation analysis showed a moderate negative link between death anxiety and self-management (r = -0.612, p<0.001). Regression analysis found that higher death anxiety was a strong negative factor in managing chronic disease. This shows that it's important to include psychological assessments and support in programs for managing chronic diseases, especially for people in temporary post-disaster settings.
