DEVELOPMENT OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT SCALE: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDY

Abstract

The paucity of instruments designed to assess organizational alignment based on employees’ perceptions underscores the need for the development of psychometrically sound measurement tools in this domain. The present study aims to develop an Organizational Alignment Scale to assess the extent to which employees are aligned with their organizations. To this end, a rigorous and comprehensive scale development process was undertaken, taking into account the multidimensional nature of organizational alignment. A sequential methodological approach was adopted. In the initial phase, an extensive review of the literature was conducted, leading to the generation of an initial item pool comprising 34 items; these items were subsequently refined based on expert evaluations. The preliminary form of the scale was pilot-tested with 40 participants, and necessary revisions were implemented accordingly. To examine construct validity, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was conducted on data obtained from 277 participants, followed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) using data collected from an independent sample of 369 participants. The findings indicated that the scale consists of 15 items loading onto four distinct dimensions. These dimensions were conceptualized as Developmental Alignment and Innovativeness, Institutional Trust and Perceptual Alignment, Social and Digital Representation Alignment, and Social Integration and Cooperation. The scale was found to account for 91.36% of the total variance, and the CFA results demonstrated that the proposed model exhibited acceptable fit indices. The overall Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.898, indicating a high level of internal consistency. Collectively, these findings provide robust evidence that the Organizational Alignment Scale developed in this study constitutes a valid and reliable instrument for assessing employees’ perceptions of organizational alignment.
